Phase 1: Perception Analysis
The first phase of the project will be dedicated to develop a country specific analysis of the perception that nowadays elderly people have about healthy lifestyles related messages. This reports should give evidence to the partnership about what is working and what is not working on communication level and which are the gaps that trained trainers should fill when getting in contact with old people on food and healthy lifestyles. 300 elderly people will be interviewed in each of the 4 countries partners.
Phase 2: Development of training concept and training toolbox
The second phase of the project will be focused on the development of the Training Concept that is made by 4 integrated “knowledge modules” addressing the following issues regarding an healthy lifestyle: Food and nutritional (culturally based), Pharmaceutical (consumer oriented), Physical activity, Daily habits (tobacco, alcohol etc).
The Training Concept will clearly define objectives, content, methods and evaluation methods and will be tested in Italy and France with 4 pilot training courses.
The end result should be that the training content is presented at the correct level to meet the objectives of the trainees. Once the training content has been outlined and the messages have been identified, training methods (e.g. lectures, discussions, demonstration, group discussion, role plays, panel and case studies) will be selected.
In terms of training material and aids, different options will be tested.
The Training Aids will be all forms of support prepared for and used in the training courses. As most training courses rely principally on the spoken word, carefully chosen well-prepared materials can make an important contribution to effective learning.
The Training Toolbox will be the educational tool for the “adult trainers” which will be the base of the on-site training and will be the educational tool that “trained teachers” will use to give guidance to elderly. It will include:
methodical/didactic material developed to support communication to elderly people on healthy lifestyles;
a FAQ section dedicated to these topics that may be used both to give answers as well as to suggest the adoption of appropriate healthy lifestyles;
a handbook containing country specific data on healthy lifestyle
Phase 3: Dissemination and exploitation
The third phase will aim at providing information on the quality, relevance and effectiveness of the results of the project to key actors of each partner country. Dedicated meeting will be organized to transfer the results to appropriate decision-makers at local, regional and national level.
Professionals and volunteers working with elderly people will then encouraged to adopt the EHLE training system and to train their colleagues with a cascade effect.
